Moscow Region Government House — an example of Thermax chillers, a project completed without Cold Energy's involvement

In brief. This project was completed without Cold Energy's involvement; we show it as an example of Thermax chillers in operation. Three LT 42 T absorption chillers running on heat from four Jenbacher gas engines with 12 MWe have been operating since 2006.

The Moscow Region Government House was completed without the involvement of Cold Energy (NCT). The project is old, has no connection with us, and we show it only as an example of Thermax chillers in operation. In Krasnogorsk, cooling for the air conditioning of the administrative complex is produced by three Thermax LT 42 T lithium bromide absorption chillers running on hot water from four Jenbacher JMS 620 gas engine generator sets and exhaust heat exchangers; the plant's electrical capacity is 12 MW. The chillers have been operating here since 2006; our company started work later, in 2011.

What was the task?

The sources do not describe the task; the engineering logic is as follows. A 30-hectare administrative complex needs air conditioning throughout the warm season, and in summer the heat from the four-engine plant is available. The absorption chillers use this heat instead of adding the electrical load of chillers.

How does the scheme work?

The classic: gas engines and hot water absorption chillers

Hot water from the engines and exhaust heat exchangers is supplied to three absorption chillers. Each delivers 12/7 °C water to the building network. The heat the chillers reject during operation is removed by closed-circuit cooling towers.

The engine jacket and exhaust heat exchanger heat water to about 90 °C. The water goes through a heat exchanger into a single-effect Thermax chiller with a COP of about 0.8. The chiller supplies 7/12 °C water to the consumer and rejects heat to an NCT cooling tower. Surplus heat is removed by dump radiators.
