Pacific Mall, Sahibabad, India

In brief. Two Thermax chillers take heat from the 533 °C exhaust and 92 °C jacket water of Deutz engines and give the mall 2,918 kW of cooling.

Pacific Mall, Sahibabad, India

At Pacific Mall, 2.7 MW of Deutz engines supply the building with electricity, and the exhaust and jacket heat goes to two Thermax absorption chillers. The source describes the cooling as practically free and the capital costs as lower.

What does the project consist of?

Parameter Value
Industry Shopping mall
Engines Deutz gas engines, 2.7 MW
Fuel Not specified
Heat for the chiller Exhaust at 533 °C and jacket water at 92 °C
Chillers and cooling 2 chillers of 415 TR each, 2,918 kW (830 TR) in total

Why is this example useful for a Russian site?

2.7 MW of engines yield 2,918 kW of cooling, more than 1 kW per kW of electricity, because the chiller takes both the exhaust and the jacket water. Such cooling stays "practically free" only while the engine is loaded. In a Russian calculation the main savings still come from generating your own electricity, and the cooling puts the heat to use in summer. More: trigeneration (CCHP) for shopping malls.

How does this kind of scheme work?

The chiller takes the exhaust and the engine jacket hot water at the same time and needs no separate heat exchangers.

The Thermax Trigenie machine takes two sources at once: exhaust gas with a COP of about 1.4 and jacket hot water with a COP of about 0.8. No separate heat recovery units are needed. The output is 7/12 °C water.
