A trigeneration (CCHP) plant runs all year round, and if the cooling circuit stops in summer, the site is left without cooling and the engine without a heat consumer. The Cold Energy (NCT) service team looks after the cooling circuit equipment: Thermax lithium bromide absorption chillers, NCT cooling towers, chillers and dry coolers, pump skids, water treatment and controls. What does the service include?

For diagnostics, the specialists have instruments: a bearing condition monitor for refrigerant and absorbent pumps, a portable ultrasonic flow meter, current measuring equipment, and tools for sampling working fluids.
What is checked during scheduled maintenance?
Operating parameters, working fluids, pump bearings, protections, controls. Water is checked separately. Scale 1 mm thick takes away about 14% of absorber capacity, and oxygen in the hot water circuit destroys the generator tubes, so water analysis and the performance of the water treatment are part of the check.
For chillers that stop when power is lost, the dilution cycle and the backup power feed are checked: the chiller survives an outage of up to 3 minutes, but longer without dilution the solution may crystallize. For the cooling tower, the bypass and the winterization package are checked, because it is in the shoulder seasons that the water from the cooling tower gets colder than the chiller allows.
What is the warranty?
The standard warranty on an absorption chiller is 12 months, extended 2–5 years. For NCT chillers, the extended warranty is up to 5 years with installation supervision, commissioning and service. For NCT cooling towers, the warranty against through-corrosion is 10 years. For NCT dry coolers, the warranty is up to 5 years. After the Teplichnoye greenhouse complex was started up, we provided two years of free absorption chiller service.
The service life of an absorption chiller according to the manufacturer's catalog is 20–25 years. Scheduled maintenance and water quality help it last that long.
